At Beyond Blindness, we have created a community that is inclusive for all children and their families. Our team also works hard to ensure the families we serve feel just as supported as their children, offering inclusive family events that help build confidence, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging. As we wrap up the fall and winter seasons, filled with heartwarming gatherings and opportunities to foster new friendships, join us in taking a look back at our remarkable journey through these months.
Pretend City Spooktacular
This fall, we kicked off the season with our annual Pretend City Spooktacular family event at Pretend City Children’s Museum in Irvine. Our families enjoyed engaging and interactive exhibits focused on music and movement, arts and crafts, health and wellbeing, and sensory activities. Nearly 300 people joined us on October 23 for a Halloween-themed evening filled with socializing, learning, playing, and dressing up.
Halloween Trunk-or-Treat
We held our first-ever Halloween Trunk or Treat event on our Beyond Blindness campus on October 31. Over 100 individuals, including families, volunteers, and community partners, joined us to celebrate with our kids. This event allowed our kids and families to participate in a fun, safe, and supportive way, as many of our children may not be able to experience Halloween like other children.
Parent & Me Workshop: Day of Harvest
The fall fun continued on Saturday, November 16, with our Parent and Me Workshop: Day of Harvest. This event brought together 31 children and their family members for fall-themed fun as part of our monthly family enrichment series. The workshop featured activities designed to develop fine motor skills while enhancing confidence and creativity.
Holiday Kids Day In
Our children welcomed the winter season with the final Holiday Kids Day In of the year on Saturday, December 7. Forty-three children came to the Beyond Blindness campus and enjoyed various activities, including a golf lesson by First Tee. This event provides respite care to current and former families, ensuring our parents receive the personal time they need and deserve.
Family Winter Skate Day
This winter, we hosted our 2024 Family Winter Skate Day, an inclusive event for the entire family! In partnership with The Rinks, we offered an adaptable skating experience for everyone in the family, with nearly 100 participants joining us. From allowing wheelchairs and strollers on the ice to providing assistive skating equipment, this event was an exciting day for our kids and families to enjoy a day on the ice.
